Acoustic Afternoon with Ben Nourse Gross

  • Nourse Farm 80 Nourse St Westborough, MA, 01581 United States (map)

Enjoy an afternoon of acoustic blues with a 9th Generation Nourse

Benjamin Nourse Gross is a guitarist and singer-songwriter who has played the guitar in various bands, ensembles and duos since the fourth grade while later having the opportunity to study at Berklee School of Music. Since having the opportunity to "chase the Blues" down in the Mississippi Delta in 2012, he has embarked on various solo projects as a singer-songwriter synthesizing the techniques, tones, and timbre of the pre-War blues musicians with theory & musicianship learned at Berklee. Inspired by Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, and Memphis Minnie, his performances attempt to educate the audience about the styles of acoustic, vernacular Delta Blues & their histories while also attempting to modernize the genre by combining elements of sampling & cross-genre chord structures and patterns.

Artist Statement

Benjamin Nourse Gross (he/him)

I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist dedicated to synthesizing the sounds of the Depression Era Delta Blues and the modern human experience. By giving voice to the artists of the genre, time period, location, I hope to educate and inspire others through performance and dialogue to blaze their own trail of discovery of the vernacular music of their backyards, from across the tracks, and the larger world beyond. Most at home in intimate, outdoor settings, I often play for an audience of passersby from the steps of my front porch in an attempt to build & unify my community.
